I agree with Don above. My understanding is NFWF has taken most of the water rights along the river for this purpose. We do not need this park, especially at the cost of being taken off the county tax roll’s. Also how do we turn in this survey, that was not made clear on wordpress.

I want to urge SV citizens to look carefully at this proposal, as there is nothing much of benefit to valley residents in it, and several drawbacks. The history of this is that National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, using taxpayer money granted to them for this purpose, acquired the ranch from the owner. They then stripped the water rights from the ranch and designated the water to Walker Lake, a terminal lake. Now that the NFWF has taken the water, they don’t want the land and certainly don’t want to pay the taxes on it. So they’ve cooked up this scheme to “gift” the land back to the county for a park, thereby avoiding the taxes. The land is taken off of Lyon County’s tax rolls, meaning our tax base is lower. And for what? A park no one in the valley needs and most will never use. It’s my opinion that NFWF should be forced to keep the land or sell it to someone who will keep it on the tax rolls.
